Chats and Rooms

A chat is a conversation with Atlas and the agents you choose. A room is a conversation that belongs to a project. Both work the same way.

Where conversations live

Choose Chat and Rooms in the sidebar. The page opens on a message bar with your conversations underneath: Chats on the left and Rooms on the right. The five newest also sit under Recent chats in the sidebar, so you can jump back into one from anywhere.

  1. Chat and Rooms opens this page.
  2. The message bar starts a new conversation.
  3. Chats holds chats you brought in from your other AI apps.
  4. Rooms shows running rooms first. A lit dot means an agent is working.
  5. Recent chats reopens a conversation from any page.

Each list shows its newest entries. Choose See more to see them all, and switch between Show ended and Show running to find a conversation you have finished.

Start a conversation

  1. Write

    Type in the message bar.

  2. Choose who

Use the round button in the bar to pick agents.

  3. Send

    Press ↵ or choose Send.

  4. Follow

Watch who is answering, then reply.

  1. Open Chat and Rooms, or choose New chat in the toolbar of an open conversation.
  2. Write your message. In a project the bar reads "Get your agents started".
  3. Choose the round button in the bar to choose who gets your message. In a chat, if you choose nobody, Atlas answers when it is set up, or else your most recent model does; the bar tells you who it goes to. In a room, choose who gets it first.
  4. If you like, open Response detail and choose Concise, Default or Detailed. In an open conversation your choice stays until you change it.
  5. Send. The Send button stays off until there is something to send.
Good to know

Atlas Mind works through your own AI provider. Model usage and rate limits are set and billed by that provider, not by Atlas Mind.

Enter or Command and Enter

By default ↵ sends and ⇧ ↵ starts a new line. If you would rather send with ⌘ ↵, open Settings, then Messages, and change Send with.

Your unsent words

Each conversation keeps its own draft while you move around the app, so you can leave halfway through a message and finish it later.

Follow, reply and find

While an agent works, a line in the conversation says what it is doing, for example "is answering" or "will answer this next". Point at the mark on your own message to see who has read it.

  • Reply. Choose Reply on an agent's line. The bar shows who you are replying to; Cancel reply takes it away.
  • Find. Choose Find or press ⌘ F and type. Only the matching lines stay on screen, with a count; in a long conversation it looks through the newest lines. Esc closes it.
  • Files the agents touched. When an agent writes or changes files, a card in the conversation lists them. Choose a file to open it.
  • Proposals. When Atlas suggests something, answer Yes or Not now.

Details

Choose Show details in the toolbar to see when the conversation opened, its last line and how many lines it has, with a tab for each agent. An agent's tab shows its latest output and, while it runs, Open terminal. Close it with Close details or Esc. Details and the panels share the same space, so opening one closes the other.

Name a conversation

New conversations are named for you from what they are about. To choose your own name:

  1. Select the conversation's name in the toolbar. Rename chat or Rename room opens.
  2. Type the name and choose Save name, or Cancel.

The box Automatic chat name turns automatic naming on or off. It saves as soon as you change it, and a name you set yourself is always kept.

Stop, end and bring back

Pause the workStop the agents

Shown while an agent is working. Stops the current work; the conversation stays open.

FinishEnd chat or End room

Asks first. The conversation moves to Ended and becomes read-only.

Carry onRestore

Opens an ended conversation again so you can keep writing.

To find an ended conversation, choose Show ended beside the Rooms heading, open it and choose Restore.

A room from another project

You can read a room that belongs to a project you do not have open. To stop, end or restore it, choose Open with the project's name at the foot of the room first.
